First Linport Symposium

The First Linport Symposium was held on September 27, 2011. The following content is retained for informational purposes. To download presentations from the Symposium, please visit the presentations page.

The Language Interoperability Portfolio (Linport) is a vendor-independent free and open format for translation; its current status is work in progress. The intention of the 1st Linport Symposium is to gather all stakeholders to crystallise the specification of Linport: — standards developers, software vendors, large users, and individual translators. The Symposium is hosted by the Directorate-General for Translation of the European Commission (disclaimer).

The Symposium will run from 10:30 to 16:00 with coffee and lunch breaks. It will have this general agenda:

  • Explanation of the current work
  • Short presentations
  • Open floor discussion
  • Conclusions

The detailed agenda will be posted later.

The only item that is implicitly understood and that will not be discussed is the intention to specify a vendor-independent free and open format for translation; everything else is open for discussion, though alternatives must be put forward.
